Learn to swim outside the box!  With no walls for rest, no black lines to follow and poor visibility, open water swimming can present challenges to even the most accomplished pool swimmers. Build your confidence and learn the proper techniques to swim in open water safely and effectively. Designed for both beginner and advanced swimmers, each clinic will focus on basic open water and triathlon racing skills. Included will be the opportunity to practice swimming in a pack, sighting and navigational techniques, passing slower swimmers and being passed, drafting techniques, buoy turns, entry and exit strategies, tempo training and more! There is no substitute for practicing open water – learn how you can enjoy the freedom of continuous movement and be prepared for your next big event!

Beginner Open Water

Intro to open water for beginners and the fearful.
Pre-requisite -Swimmers should be comfortable swimming in the pool for 600m.
Should be familiar with the Total Immersion swim program; however, not necessary.

Sessions will take place at various lakes along shoreline and swimming between docks.

Format – Dryland instruction – 15 minutes
Shoreline drilling and warm up – 15 minutes
Swim 400 – 800 metres

BEGINNER

Intermediate Open Water

Refine sighting skills and build endurance swimming outside the box!  Pre-requisite -Swimmers should be comfortable swimming in the pool for 2000m.  Should be familiar with the Total Immersion swim program; however, not necessary.  Sessions will take place at various lakes and rivers to practice in various open water conditions.

Format – Discussion on course – 15 minutes
Shoreline drilling and warm up – 15 minutes
Swim 1500 – 2200 metres
